Research Objectives: This paper empirically analyses the effect of China‘s outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on the parent company‘s employment skill structure. Research Methods: We use the distributed lag model to construct the 2010~2018 corporate-level OFDI panel data, and conduct research and analysis from three channels of OFDI motivation, export substitution effect and technology spillover effect. Research Findings: The company‘s OFDI significantly optimized the employment skill structure of its parent company and has lagging effects. In the regression analysis of heterogeneity, from the perspective of the degree of development of the host country, investment in developed countries and developing countries both have significantly improved the parent company‘s employment skills structure. From the perspective of investment entry mode, both greenfield investment and cross-border mergers and acquisitions can optimize the employment skill structure of enterprises, but greenfield investment has a greater effect on the optimization of the parent company‘s skill structure. From the perspective of regional development differences, the foreign direct investment of enterprises in the eastern region has significantly improved the employment skills structure of enterprises, and the foreign investment of enterprises in the central and western regions has significantly reduced impact on the employment skills structure of enterprises. Research Innovations: This article explores the optimization effect of OFDI on the employment skill structure of enterprises from the perspective of the amount of foreign investment of enterprises, and uses the friendly city as an IV variable to solve the endogenous problem. Research Value: In the current environment of China‘s active integration into globalization, focusing on promoting enterprises OFDI and optimizing the layout of enterprises‘ foreign investment has important value and significance for alleviating the contradictions in the domestic employment structure.
